What is your current stick setup and What do you look for in a pocket
(Head, mesh, shaft, tape placement)?
For MLL I use an STX stallion HS version with the STX Sci Ti shaft. I love the setup. I always have used a red head for field lacrosse. My junior year at RIT I tried to dye my own heads orange and they came out red. I had a good game the next week and have used red heads ever since. For a pocket I love soft mesh I use ECD Hero Mesh. It's incredible. No break in time, consistent, everything I am looking for in a mesh. I like a big bag with 4 Shooting strings for a smooth release. My pocket is mid-high. Tape wise I like a huge knob at the bottom. Tape a quarter of the way up and two strips for my hand placement on the shaft
NLL I use a UA Charge 2. I face off in indoor so I go through heads like crazy probably 12-14 a season. Same mesh and tape job.
How would you compare your field stick to your box stick?
Very different my box stick is very pinched and has a big pocket. I need to be able to control the ball in tight spaces and scoop up tight loose balls. Outdoor i use a wider head and string it with a much quicker release.
With that being said, do you feel any piece of your gear is unique or different from most?
I think everyone's heads are always unique and different I'm sure there are few guys that could use my sticks and vice versa.
Tell us about the mobile app Drivn? How was it started? What's it all about?
DRIVN is a mobile app that centralizes communication between coaches and athletes to improve performance. It is a Boston based company started by a group of technologists and athletes. The official release of the company was November 2015 and we are currently on pace to hit 100 teams by the end of February. We work with College and professional teams including our Georgia Swarm and a handful of NHL teams.
How did the game of Lacrosse start for you? Did you imagine you would be where you are today?
Absolutely NOT! I started playing reluctantly. My brother liked it and i randomly decided to join him. We were hockey kids I thought the NHL was my future. I started when I was 5 or 6 and never looked back. The thing is I wasn't very good! Not until late high school did I start to develop my skills. I just loved it so much and worked my butt off to get better.
Was there ever someone who said you wouldn't be able to achieve the level of success you have today?
Not directly but there were instances when I felt that. I was barely recruited, I visited 2 schools UTICA and GORDON college. Small D3 schools. No one thought I could play at the next level. After 2 years at GORDON I transferred to RIT. I knew I could play and that was my opportunity to show it. I love now when I tell people that story, many of my MLL teammates can't believe it. I use it daily as motivation especially in the MLL. I wasn't drafted, I sat on Hamilton's practice roster for a year. I told myself the first chance I get to play I'm going to kill it. Thankfully Soudo gave me a shot and it's all worked out.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Form your own opinions. Don't let others shape how you view things.
One thing people would be surprised to know about Jordan Macintosh?
Ahhhh probably that I am pretty into fashion and design. I am obsessed with the process of creating and making, and I love clothes, not only clothes but the stories behind brands and materials they use.
Two goals for the 2016 Rochester Rattlers season (One personal and one team)..
Personally is to improve. That has to be a goal every year for any player.
I'd like to increase my production and I'd like to take on more of a leadership role with the team.
Team is capture that elusive title, we've been the bridesmaids two years in a row it's time for us to hoist.
What is your daily wall ball routine and favorite spot to practice?
Wall ball routine starts simple. 50l 50r 50btb 50twisters. Then I do 50 bad passes. Practice catching in awkward spots. Get comfortable being uncomfortable.
Favourite spot to practice is the HS by my apartment in Boston. Great Wall and turf.
Finish the sentence, if Jordan Macintosh wasn't a professional lacrosse player he would be running his own clothing brand
Most memorable goal? Something that really got the crowd loud.
Hmm. My first MLL goal. In Rochester against Boston. My first MLL action. I had all my RIT teammates there. It was a cool moment.
We see you taking all the Faceoff's for the Georgia Swarm and a few for the Rochester Rattlers, were you ever considering being a Faceoff athlete?
There is a big difference. NLL game day roster is capped at 16 players. You can't dress a player who only takes face offs or you will be limited and have a tired team. You have to be able to contribute at one end of the floor as well as face off. Outdoor it is a specialized position. Those guys just take face offs. It makes sense. I would say the possessions from face offs in outdoor are probably more critical to the game, comparing a one minute shot clock to a 30 second shot clock. I like taking them in indoor. They help me get involved in the game and create transition opportunities
